SUMMARY

BioNAV introduces its APID Edge Proof-of-Concept (PoC), a low-power demonstration of its patent-pending Adaptive Particle Identification & Detection method. Designed for air handling manufacturers and qualified system integrators, the PoC validates real-time particulate classification across optical and non-optical imaging technologies. APID also enables experts to build proprietary particle datasets and train custom models—creating defensible intellectual property assets unavailable through public AI training sources.

Springfield, Missouri — November 30, 2025 — BioNAV Environmental Health today announced the release of its APID Edge Proof-of-Concept (PoC) system, a demonstration platform validating BioNAV's patent-pending APID (Adaptive Particle Identification & Detection) method on low-power edge hardware.

The APID Edge PoC represents the first commercially available validation of BioNAV's patent-pending methodology (PCT/US2024/031776), enabling air handling manufacturers to integrate real-time particle identification capabilities into HVAC systems, vehicle cabin filtration, portable air purifiers, industrial ventilation, and other direct airflow products.

"The APID Edge Proof-of-Concept proves our process works on minimal hardware," said Robert Freeman, Founder and CEO of BioNAV. "That means the performance ceiling is wide open. Deploy on GPU, TPU, or NPU (smartphone) processing architectures, and you'll see 10–50x throughput gains... potentially creating a new revenue source for manufacturers from their existing air filtered products."

A Licensing & Advisory Model — Not a Product Company

Unlike companies selling finished hardware or software products, BioNAV's business model focuses exclusively on intellectual property licensing and technical advisory services.

BioNAV offers two pathways to market:

For Air Handling Manufacturers: Annual licensing agreements authorize integration of the APID methodology into OEM products. Licensed manufacturers gain access to BioNAV's reference implementation, technical advisory support, and—under license terms—future connectivity to BioNAV's centralized environmental health data platform.

For Qualified System Integrators: BioNAV is establishing a network of licensed distributors capable of building turnkey APID solutions and/or custom solutions for end customers. Integrator partners receive licensing rights, licensing strategy training, and preferred access to BioNAV's expanding product development roadmap.

What Manufacturers Gain: Product Differentiation Through Data

The APID methodology transforms standard air filtration products into intelligent environmental sensors. Licensed manufacturers can offer customers:

  • Detection Capabilities:

    • Real-time particle classification (pollen, mold, dust, fibers, industrial contaminants)

    • Filter replacement alerts based on actual debris load—not arbitrary schedules

    • Mobile app integration for customer engagement and brand stickiness

    • Supports a wide range of high-resolution computer vision inputs + IP video + file upload features

  • Proprietary Data Advantages:

    • Build particle libraries unique to your industry—datasets competitors cannot replicate

    • Train custom AI models using APID's cumulative architecture—turn expertise into defensible IP

    • Own your training data—every detection session compounds your competitive advantage

  • Business Intelligence:

    • Aggregated field performance data for product development and QA insights

Future Platform Access: Under BioNAV licensing terms, manufacturers who integrate APID gain eligibility for participation in BioNAV's planned PatientShare™ and EnviroShare™ data platforms—enabling cross-product environmental exposure tracking for end users and potential healthcare provider integrations. Development details will be shared with qualified licensees under NDA.

Designed for Minimum-Viable Validation

The APID Edge PoC runs intentionally on NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano hardware at CPU-level processing. This design choice demonstrates:

Design Rationale

Benefit

Minimum-viable performance baseline

If APID validates on constrained edge hardware, performance scales dramatically on production architectures

Low power consumption

Enables field deployment, mobile applications, battery-powered implementations

Offline-capable processing

No cloud dependency required for core detection functionality

Cost-effective entry point

Reduces barrier to pilot programs and proof-of-concept testing

Professional Note: Training and inference times on the PoC's CPU-bounded configuration are slower than GPU/TPU/NPU-accelerated deployments. This is by design—the PoC establishes a performance floor, not a ceiling.

Flexible Imaging Compatibility

The APID methodology supports air filtration analysis via integration across optical and non-optical imaging systems, including:

  • USB microscope cameras

  • IP Video high-resolution machine vision platforms (Keyence, Cognex, Basler, Omron)

  • Laser, UV, IR, multispectral, and hyperspectral systems

  • Borescope and endoscopic inspection cameras

  • OEM-embedded imaging modules

  • Plus, file upload features for "closed-system" regulatory applications

APID Edge Extreme: Classify proprietary air/gas particle datasets in the field.
APID Edge Extreme: Classify proprietary air/gas particle datasets in the field.

This flexibility enables manufacturers to adopt APID without replacing existing imaging infrastructure.
